| We all want to be better musicians. One proven way of achieving that goal is having a solid grounding in music theory. If you understand why the music sounds the way it does, it makes playing more natural & therefore easier. This won't remove the requirement for the hard yards on your instrument but it will make that journey easier & quicker. | |

I started out my music theory education the same way as most of us, by learning as I went along, picking up bits & pieces here & there. I realised I needed more so I bought countless books that all proved dry & almost unreadable. I paid for theory lessons & progressed quickly with my teacher setting homework for me. In a matter of months I easily passed my ABRSM grade 5 theory with distinction! The financial cost was painfully high; lessons were about £25 an hour. Combined with earning a living at the same time also made it difficult & time consuming. Valuable time was spent constantly re-visiting subjects already covered. But the up side was that my playing improved immeasurably as I understood more of what I was reading & playing. Introduction to the Virtual Music School

I then wanted to start my journey in jazz & popular music but realised that true understanding required even more classical music theory. I still couldnt follow the books & couldn't afford the high cost or travelling time associated with private lessons. That's when I found The Virtual Music School.
