Meet Gary
Gary started Wessex Music in 1999 after a career as a Royal Navy Submariner marine engineer.
He started playing the clarinet in 1976 followed by saxophone and flute. In 1980, his instrument broke while he was at sea, so he had to fix it himself. The job took 3 frustrating days and would now take him just a matter of hours.
He spent time with flute repairer Jon Dodd and was accepted into the Royal Marines Band Service workshop twice a week for two years learning from their NAMIR technicians.
Later, Gary became a professional member of NAMIR and also attended the Malden School of Musical Instrument Repair, to finish his training and later taught there as the woodwind instrument specialist.
